BROKEN S.D. WATER MAIN CREATES SINKHOLE

A water main broke Thursday afternoon at a constructi­on site in San Diego’s Morena neighborho­od, prompting street closures and the evacuation­s of nearby businesses, authoritie­s said.

The broken main was reported just after 3:45 p.m. in an industrial area near Sherman and Lovelock streets, west of Morena Boulevard and north of Friars Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

“This is a constructi­on site and the water coming from the broken pipe is causing a sinkhole,” Fire-Rescue Department officials said in a statement.

Businesses were being evacuated as of 4:20 p.m., according to the agency.

No homes or apartments were affected, according to the Fire-Rescue Department.
