SAN DIEGO — Douglas Watt Masson, 80, of San Diego, passed away March 27th at his home. He was a long time resident of Escondido and then Scripps Ranch. A native Californian, Doug was born in Hayward to Mark and Ruth Masson. He attended Hayward High and then San Jose State, where he received a BS degree in Engineering in 1967. Doug received his Civil Engineering license and worked for the Santa Clara Flood Control & Water District. In 1964 Doug married Marcia Stamm and had two sons, John and Daniel. In 1972 Doug and Marcia moved their young family to Escondido, and Doug went to work for Neste, Brudin and Stone. He went on to open his own company, Masson & Associates, in 1978. Eventually this became a family business as sons John and Dan came on board, and then later grandson Zac joined the team. In 2004 Doug married Sara Fraleigh, creating a wonderful Masson/Fraleigh blended family, who eagerly looked forward to the fun biennial family vacations. He loved to play golf and to travel to Kauai, his magical place. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marcia, and son John. Doug is survived by his loving family, who remember him for his kindness, understanding, and his analytical mind, as well as by many dear friends. He will truly be missed.
