A worker was rushed to a hospital after falling 10 to 15 feet at a construction site in downtown San Diego on Tuesday, fire officials said.

The incident was reported at a location near North Harbor Drive and West G Street about 11:35 a.m.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Department crews found the worker below grade, or in a space that is lower than the ground level, fire Battalion Chief Becky Newell said. Firefighters used a truck to hoist the worker back to the surface.

The victim’s spine and several limbs were immobilized before he was taken to a hospital, Newell said. The man was transported at a Code 10, which is generally reserved for patients who have suffered traumatic injuries or who are in acute medical distress.

It’s unclear what led to the fall.
