A driver and a passenger were arrested Wednesday, accused of leading San Diego police on a pursuit that ended in a crash in La Mesa, police said.

San Diego police said the pair was in a stolen vehicle. When officers tried to pull them over — it was unclear where — they didn’t stop. Officers gave chase as the vehicle headed east into La Mesa.

In the area of University and Lee avenues, the driver and passenger ditched the vehicle and ran in different directions, police Officer David O’Brien said.

OnScene TV recorded video of surveillance footage that shows the driver and front passenger jumping out of a moving car in a parking lot. The vehicle crashes into a parked car as officers pull up.

O’Brien said the passenger was arrested soon after the pair ran. The driver was arrested after a search that involved a police helicopter.
