‘CLEAN SLATE’: GULLS FIRE BOUCHARD

-

The San Diego Gulls are about to have a new head coach — again.

Joel Bouchard was fired Wednesday, just 10 months after he replaced Kevin Dineen, who coached the NHL Anaheim Ducks’ top minor league affiliate for only two seasons, both of which were cut short by COVID-19.

Bouchard was 28-33-4-3 in his one season, with the Gulls finishing seventh in the nineteam AHL Pacific Division, then getting swept in a best-ofthree playoff series by the Ontario Reign.

Dineen and Bouchard both were hired by Bob Murray, who resigned as Ducks executive vice president and general manager in November after an investigation into his professional conduct.

Pat Verbeek, who was named GM in February, made the decision to replace Bouchard and his assistants, Daniel Jacob and Max Talbot.

“This was a tough year for everyone and we feel a clean slate is needed in San Diego,” Verbeek said. “These are extremely difficult decisions, but we are committed to returning to our winning ways in San Diego for our great fans. We wish Joel, Daniel and Max the best of luck in the future.”
