As the State Swim Championships resume after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Eastlake High senior Emily Lundgren is returning as the top seed in her signature event.

Lundgren, who swam in the meet as a freshman, ranks as the favorite in the girls 100-yard breaststroke with a chance to improve on her San Diego Section record (1:00.96) and challenge the state mark (59.66).

The prelims are slated for today and finals Saturday at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex on the campus of Clovis West High.

Lundgren won the consolation heat of the 200 individual medley with the sixth best time overall (2:03.37) in 2019. This year, she’s seeded 14th (2:03.46), while La Jolla sophomore Arielle Brotman ranks fourth (2:01.17).

On the boys side, Torrey Pines sophomore Logan Noguchi is seeded third in the 100 backstroke (46.36), coming off his record-setting performance in the section finals.

Also seeded third is Canyon Crest junior Andrew Ko, who set the section record (54.95) in the prelims.

Carlsbad senior Dylan Mes (4:28.97) is ranked sixth in the boys 500 free following a repeat section title.

Opting not to compete is Bishop’s senior Lucius Brown, who set the 50 free record (20.02) in the section finals. The state meet conflicts with his school’s prom.

Of the 26 individual section champions, nine are bypassing the state meet for various reasons.
