SWAT TEAM STANDOFF ENDS WITH ARREST IN NORTH PARK
A woman who police said threw hot oil on an officer, then holed up inside her North Park home for more than six hours, surrendered Friday evening, a lieutenant said.
SWAT officers arrested the woman, whose name was not immediately released, on suspicion of several assault charges related to Friday’s incident, San Diego police spokesperson Lt. Adam Sharki said.
The woman was also wanted on a warrant related to a parole or probation violation for previous charges that included assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and felony pursuit, Sharki said.
Police were called out around 9:45 a.m. to the woman’s residence on Vancouver Avenue south of Maple Street after neighbors reported that she was throwing glass bottles off a secondfloor balcony and making threats, Sharki said.
Officers arrived at the home along with a clinician from the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team and tried to make contact with her, Sharki said.
At some point, the woman “threw hot oil in an officer’s face,” Sharki said.
Paramedics took that officer to a hospital for treatment of second-degree burns to his head, face, neck and arms.
He was treated for his injuries and released Friday evening, Sharki said.
A SWAT team, including emergency negotiators, was called to the home around 12:45 p.m., Sharki said.
The woman remained inside the residence until she surrendered around 6:30 p.m.
