Police: Husband, wife dead in murder-suicide

An 86-year-old man fatally shot his 83-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself in what police called a murder-suicide in the Point Loma area Monday night.

The incident was reported at the couple’s home on Lowell Street near Nimitz Boulevard about 7:30 p.m.

Officers found the couple inside the home and started first aid until paramedics arrived and took over, but the man and woman died before they could be taken to a hospital, police said.

Their names were not released. Lt. Jud Campbell said homicide detectives collected evidence and interviewe­d witnesses at the scene. Anyone with informatio­n about the case was asked to call detectives at (619) 531-2293 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
