Signs are all there we must change our ways

-

Recently I surfed at Tourmaline and stepped on two large, gooey tar balls, which took an hour of scrubbing and scraping to remove. Although their origin was unknown, they brought to mind Amplify Energy’s 2021 oil spill.

It’s hard to hold these companies responsible for their catastrophes, because we all buy energy. We subsidize fossil fuels to the tune of more than $8.9 billion, but these will cost more locally,

because global warming is increasing heat, drought, wildfires and coastline loss here. We must change energy sources. The transition will be tough, especially to those who rely on fossil fuels for their living. That’s where the Green New Deal comes in, which recognizes that the transition must provide economic justice to those affected.

On June 7, please choose candidates who support the Green New Deal, including Kylie Taitano in District 50, Sara Jacobs in District 51 and Joaquín Vázquez in District 52.
