Pursuit ends in crash on freeway ramp Mission Bay

SAN DIEGO

A driver led San Diego police on a brief pursuit that ended in a crash on the east Interstate 8 transition ramp to south Interstate 5 on Monday afternoon, police said.

The pursuit began about 12:25 p.m. on Dana Landing Road near the Mission Bay channel. It was unclear what led up to the pursuit. An officer reported that a man he was talking to ran to a vehicle and took off, police said.

The pursuit ended up on eastbound I-8, where the driver crashed on the transition ramp for unknown reasons. Footage from OnScene TV showed a dark sedan in the vegetation along the ramp.

The driver, in his 30s, ran away but was detained soon after. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of a leg injury that was not tied to the crash, police said. No further information was immediately available.
