Starbucks told workers last Friday it plans to permanentl­y close a store in Ithaca, N.Y. — one of three in the city — on June 10. Starbucks cited facilities issues and staffing problems that have plagued the store. But Workers United, the union that represents Starbucks workers nationwide, says the coffee giant is retaliatin­g against the store for its labor activism. Workers United filed an unfair labor practice charge with the NLRB.

U.S. safety regulators have closed an investigat­ion into sticky power steering on thousands of older General Motors SUVs and will not seek a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administra­tion says GM in 2014 issued “special coverage” to fix the problem on the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and other models. The coverage replaced a steering gear with an improved one.

An Amazon executive who recently announced his resignatio­n is joining logistics startup Flexport as its new CEO. Dave Clark will begin his new role on Sept. 1, two months after he steps down from his current role as CEO of Amazon’s worldwide consumer business. On Friday, Clark announced his departure from Amazon, where he’s worked for 23 years.

A union representi­ng housekeepi­ng workers at Atlantic City’s casinos says four of the resorts are not complying with a COVIDrelat­ed requiremen­t that hotel rooms be cleaned daily, and called Wednesday for the state to intervene. Local 54 of the Unite Here union said state officials need to enforce an order issued in 2020 by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy requiring hotel rooms to be cleaned and sanitized daily. The union filed a complaint Wednesday with the state Department of Community Affairs against Caesars, Harrah’s, Tropicana and the Golden Nugget.
