SAN DIEGO — Brenda W. Holman 87, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2022. Born in White Plains, NY to Leon and Olive Wehbring, Brenda had two brothers, John and Kurt Wehbring. Brenda grew up in White Plains and Mount Vernon, NY, graduating from A.B. Davis High School. After High School, Brenda attended college at the University of Michigan, graduating with a B.A. in 1956 and then getting her master’s degree in teaching at the University of Bridgeport. In college and in high school Brenda was a National Honor Society member, Dorm president and loyal University of Michigan supporter! Tracing her roots back to the 1700’s, Brenda was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Brenda had 4 children, Reed Holman, (wife Bonnie), Jill Holman Muller, (husband Mark), Christophe­r Holman (wife Tracy) and daughter Kimberly, (deceased). Most of Brenda’s time with her kids was spent on Battle Hill where she lived and raised her three children. She was active with all her children, PTA president at Battle Hill School, and developed lifelong friendship­s on Lee Avenue. Her friends and family were everything to her: grandchild­ren include, Jason and Emily Holman, Andrew Muller (deceased) Tara, Ryan, and Dane Muller, and Christophe­r, Justin and Jordan Holman. In addition, Brenda had several great grandchild­ren, Alexander, Evelyn, Xavier, Camila and Woods.

Most of Brenda’s working career was in teaching where she was a reading specialist for over two decades at Pocantico Hills School, in North Tarrytown, NY. During her time there she served as President of the Teachers

Union. Until the day of her death, she continued many strong friendship­s with her fellow teachers, gathering for reunions when Brenda came to town.

In the 1990’s Brenda retired from teaching and moved west to Southern California to be closer to her mother Olive and her daughter Jill and grandchild­ren. There in San Diego she made many friends by volunteeri­ng at the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park for over two decades. In addition to the zoo, she also spent her free time serving the homeless, and was an active member of her church alter guild at Good Samaritan Church in University City. She always kept busy as a sports fan, holding season tickets to the San Diego Padre baseball games, and rooting for her alma mater, the University of Michigan Wolverines. In her 20’s she was a contestant on Jeopardy, she read both the Los Angeles and New York Times daily and mastered the NY Times crossword puzzle until well into her 80’s. She was also a supporter of Planned Parenthood, and The League of Women Voters.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, University City on Saturday, July 23rd, at 1:00.
