The Aristocrats:

-

Power trios don’t come any more virtuosic or eclectic than The Aristocrats, whose music fuses prog-rock, heavy metal, country, jazz and more into a dizzying blend. Together, English guitarist Guthrie Govan, American bassist Bryan Beller and German drummer Marco Minnemann — a Lake Elsinore resident — perform with ferocious power and pinpoint dynamic control. Their many individual credits include collaborations with Joe Satriani, the Buddy Rich Orchestra and film composer Hans Zimmer. The Aristocrats’ current tour will feature music from its new album with Poland’s Primuz Chamber Orchestra, minus the orchestra. 8 p.m. Sunday. Ramona Mainstage, 626 Main St., Ramona. $28. ramonamainstage.com

Andy Milne & Unison: Versatile pianist Andy Milne had very good reason to title his 2020 album “THE reMISSION.” It was the Canadian musician’s first release since being diagnosed with and recovering from prostate cancer. It was also his first in with Unison, his superb trio with bassist John Hébert and drum marvel Clarence Penn, who is a skilled band leader in his own right. Milne is a former student of jazz piano legend Oscar Peterson and a veteran of saxophonist Steve Coleman’s genreshredding 5 Elements band. He combines impeccable taste and technical prowess on the piano with deep, deep feeling. Milne’s appearances here are few and far between, as are Penn’s and Hébert’s. That makes their Thursday concert here a must-hear event.

7:30 p.m. Thursday. Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room, Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, 1008 Wall St., La Jolla. $35 members; $40 nonmembers. All attendees must wear masks. (858) 454-5872, ljathenaeum.org george.varga@sduniontribune.com
