One person dead, two injured in solo-vehicle crash

A 25-year-old woman was killed early Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Coronado, police said.

Coronado police officers responded to the crash around 12:26 a.m. on Orange Avenue near Hotel del Coronado and said they found three people inside a white sedan.

A woman riding in the rear of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, authoritie­s said. Her identity is being withheld, pending notificati­on of next of kin.

A 20-year-old man who was driving and 20-year-old woman in the front passenger seat were both taken to a hospital with injuries that weren't believed to be life-threatenin­g, police said.

Investigat­ors said alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash.

The county district attorney's DUI Homicide Unit is investigat­ing.

The driver of a black Toyota sedan — a 27-year-old man from San Diego — was traveling north when he veered the car off the road and struck the back of the truck.

Matias said the driver of the Toyota was trapped in the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The impact of the crash pushed the box truck forward, and it struck the man standing in front of it, CHP officers said.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Authoritie­s closed multiple lanes. All lanes were reopened about three hours later.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors, Matias said.
