Chef offers October Filipino food specials: In honor of Filipino American History Month, South Bay chef-restaurate­ur Phillip Esteban is offering weekly Filipino heritage food specials during the month of October at his White Rice restaurant­s. Today through Monday, dishes brought to the Philippine­s by Spanish conquistad­ors are featured, including bulalo and empanadas. From Oct. 28 to 30, dishes introduced to the Philippine­s by the U.S. military are featured, including Filipino spaghetti with hot dog Bolognese and the Wavy “OG,” an American-style cheeseburg­er. Turon martinis at Puffer Malarkey restaurant­s: Puffer Malarkey Collective restaurant­s are serving turon espresso martinis this month in honor of Filipino American History Month. Truluck’s crab season under way:

Truluck’s La Jolla restaurant has launched its annual menu offering of never-frozen Florida stone crab claws. The national restaurant chain restaurant works with fishing crews in South Florida who catch, cook, pack on ice and deliver the crab legs by plane to Truluck’s locations nationwide.
