DONS GET TOP SEED IN DIVISION II

Cathedral Catholic, a team with a 4-17 record, is the No. 1 seed in Division II in the boys water polo Southern California Regional Playoffs.

The Dons, however, have played at least eight of the other 24 teams in the three divisions of the Regionals and played those teams tough.

The Dons host No. 8-seeded Downey on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Vista is the No. 2 seed in Division II and hosts No. 7 Mt. Carmel at the William A. Wagner Aquatic Center in Oceanside.

Poway is the No. 4 seed and plays No. 5 San Clemente at Rancho Bernardo.

Bishop’s, the San Diego Section Open Division champion, hosts Santa Ana Mater Dei on Tuesday while No. 7 seed La Jolla, the Open Division runner-up, is at No. 2 San Juan Capistrano JSerra.

In Division III, Ranch Bernardo, the San Diego Section Division II champion, is seeded No. 2 and hosts No. 7 San Pedro. Ramona, the San Diego Section Division III champion, is seeded No. 4 and hosts No. 5 Lake Balboa Birmingham at Coggan Pool in La Jolla.

In girls volleyball, No. 1seeded Cathedral Catholic, which is 40-0, hosts Manhattan Beach Mira Costa on Tuesday at 6 p.m. for the Southern California Open Division title. First serve is 6 p.m.

Francis Parker, a No. 8 seed, is on the road at No. 3 West Hills Chaminade in Division II.

In Division III, No 14 Helix, which has beaten the three, six and two seeds in the playoffs, is at No. 1 Sherman Oaks Buckley.

In Division V, No. 3 Victory Christian Academy is at No. 1 Los Angeles Marshall.

The winners advance to the State Championsh­ips on Friday and Saturday at Santiago Canyon College.
