NATIONAL CITY TEACHER ARRESTED SECOND TIME
Jacqueline Ma accused of multiple sex offenses involving former student
A National City elementary school teacher arrested earlier this week and accused of committing sex crimes on a former student has been arrested a second time, National City police said.
Jacqueline Ma, who last year was named a “Teacher of the Year” in San Diego County, was arrested Tuesday morning at Lincoln Acres Elementary School and booked into county jail. She posted bail a short time later and was out of custody by Wednesday morning.
On Thursday, National City police said in a news release that they had conducted surveillance on Ma and then arrested her the same day on National Avenue near 33rd Street in San Diego.
She was booked again into the Las Colinas jail in Santee on Thursday evening on suspicion of several offenses, including committing a lewd and lascivious act on a child under 14, sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography and preventing or dissuading a witness, according to online jail records.
The National City Police Department said it would not be releasing any additional information about the case because the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier this week, police said the department was contacted by “a concerned parent” who suspected her 13-year-old child had an “inappropriate relationship” with a former teacher. Detectives and school resource officers started an investigation and developed probable cause to make the Tuesday arrest at the school on Lanoitan Avenue near East 24th Street.
After she posted bail, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office said an arraignment for Ma was scheduled for next week, when the office would announce whether charges would be filed.
In August, Ma was one of five teachers named as San Diego County’s Teachers of the Year. She has taught fifth and sixth grades in the National School District since 2013.
