Cougars update: San Marcos is making its third consecutiv­e NCAA West Regional appearance. It was a No. 4 seed the last two seasons and No. 3 this year. San Marcos is led by Dynnah Buckner, a fith-year senior guard who averages a team-high 12.2 points per game. She shoots 40.7 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free-throw line. Guard Kelsey Forrester (11.4 ppg) shoots 44.3 percent from 3-point range, and forward Jordan Vasquez puts up 11 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. Chico State transfer Charity Gallegos averages 10.7 ppg; the guard is coming off a 29-point performanc­e in last week’s conference tournament championsh­ip game against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Cougars are good shooters: They rank first in the CCAA in both 3-point percentage (34.7) and free-throw percentage (76.4).

Wildcats update: Central Washington is led by conference player of the year Samantha Bowman, a 6-foot-3 center who is averaging 22.1 points, 14.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 blocks per per game. Bowman, who has a triple-double on her résumé, can also step back and hit a 3-pointer: Her 30 triples rank fourth on the team. Amber Cai has hit 74 of her 235 3-point attempts this year and ranks fourth on the team with 29 assists. Sunshine Huerta puts up 18.2 points per game. Huerta is shooting better than 45 percent from 3-point range. The Wildcats are coming off a semifinal loss in the GNAC tournament.
