Two people — including a 20year-old man — died early Thursday after they were found shot inside a home in Harbison Canyon during a large party, a sheriff ’s official said.

Someone called 911 shortly before 2 a.m. to report hearing eight to 10 shots and people shouting at a party at a house on Renfro Way near Silverbrook Drive, off Harbison Canyon

Road in East San Diego County, sheriff ’s Lt. Joseph Jarjura said in a statement.

A short time later, a second person called to say someone at the house had been shot.

When sheriff ’s deputies arrived at the house, which is at the end of a long driveway, they found several people trying to leave the area in cars and on foot. A partygoer flagged the deputies down and told them there was an injured man inside the home.

The deputies found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. After they rendered aid to the man, he was loaded onto a helicopter and flown to a trauma hospital, where he died about two hours later. His name is not being released until relatives have been notified, officials said.

As deputies searched the home for the shooter and to check for more victims, they found a second person, described only as male, who had been shot, Jarjura said. He died before he could be taken to a hospital. His identity is not yet known, Jarjura said.

“At this stage of the investigation, the nature of the relationship between the victims and any potential suspect(s) is unclear. The motivation and circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation,” he said.

An estimated 100 people were at the residence when deputies arrived, said Lt. Matthew Carpenter.

Homicide detectives were waiting for a search warrant to get permission to go back into the home, Fox 5 reported. A neighbor told the TV station he believed the two-story home was being used as a shortterm rental.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the homicide unit at (858) 2856330, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (888) 580-8477.
