Sycuan Casino Resort celebrates its 40th anniversary during a monumental year
Originally opening as the Sycuan Bingo Palace on Nov. 23, 1983, San Diego’s first casino is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Sycuan Casino Resort started as a humble 7,000-square-foot building with few employees. Despite its small size, the establishment continued to prosper both economically and within the community.
Three short years later, Sycuan dedicated a small room in the Bingo Palace and filled it with 12 Poker tables. The addition of poker dramatically contributed to casino’s growth and helped establish its position as an exciting local option for entertainment.
During the 21 years that followed, Sycuan grew to the now 510,000-squarefoot casino that stands today. With continued development in mind, Sycuan made huge strides in the community, in gaming and toward further expansion by purchasing the Singing
Hills Golf Resort and the US Grant Hotel, along with several other properties and projects. Most recently, Sycuan played a pivotal role in bringing San Diego its first ever Major League Soccer team.
With the community and the idea of giving back ever present in the tribe’s culture, Sycuan has served as a dedicated partner to over 500 local community and civic organizations. Partners include those that focus on the arts, health and wellness, animal welfare and environmental preservation, along with organizations that are devoted to having an overall positive impact on the community.

This includes an exciting nod to where it all started, in the Bingo Room where they will be giving away over $650,000 in cash prizes throughout the day, as well as a new car.
