MILLER BACK WITH BILLS AFTER ARREST

-

Though shaken by Von Miller being charged with domestic violence, General Manager Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills proceeded cautiously on Wednesday in awaiting the legal process to play out before rushing to judgement or discipline.

For now, the NFL’s active leader in sacks and two-time Super Bowl winner will continue practicing and is expected to suit up on Sunday, when Buffalo (6-6) travels to play at the Kansas City Chiefs (8-4). And that will remain the Bills’ approach until more information surfaces from either a Dallas police or NFL investigation into allegations of Miller assaulting the mother of his children, who is pregnant.

“No one wants their name associated with any accusation like that, so that’s a natural disappointment. I’m sure he’s disappointed,” Beane said.

Beane spoke for the team as the Bills returned from their bye week, and a week after Miller turned himself in to police in a Dallas suburb after being charged in a warrant with domestic violence. Miller faces a charge of third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman, which is punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He is free after posting a $5,000 bond.

The woman and Miller have

been in a relationship for seven years and have children together.

Lawrence improving

Trevor Lawrence has ditched the crutches and the walking boot.

The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback feels “a lot better” than he thought he would two days after sustaining a high ankle sprain against Cincinnati.

Lawrence sat out practice Wednesday but wouldn’t rule out playing at Cleveland (7-5) on Sunday, a matchup that could help decide the AFC wild-card race or postseason seeding down the stretch.

Back to Wilson

Zach Wilson is back in as the New York Jets’ starting quarterback. And he hopes to finish the season in that position.

Wilson, benched for two games after struggling in place of the injured Aaron Rodgers, will be under center for the Jets’

home game Sunday against the Houston Texans.

The decision came a day after New York waived Tim Boyle following two ineffective starts and signed Brett Rypien off Seattle’s practice squad.

Stcking with Dobbs

Joshua Dobbs and the Minnesota Vikings finally had an opportunity to catch their breath, after a whirlwind arrival, a storybook start and two buzz-killing losses before their bye week.

He’s still the quarterback for now. Their job is to provide enough support to keep him in his starting role — while maintaining positioning for the playoffs that has taken a precarious turn.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell announced that Dobbs will remain the starter this week, after he threw four interceptions — three of them off a variety of deflections — during a damaging 12-10 defeat at home to Chicago on Nov. 27.

Surgery for McCarthy

Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy missed practice to undergo surgery on his appendix but is expected to be on the sideline for a highly anticipated rematch with Philadelphia.

The team said McCarthy was hospitalized after experiencing abdominal pain Wednesday morning. He was set for surgery after being diagnosed with appendicitis and expected to be released later in the day.

Notable

The Rams signed longtime Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby to their practice squad.

The move likely indicates Crosby, 39, will soon be the third kicker to appear in a game for Los Angeles this season, given incumbent Lucas Havrisik’s recent struggles.

49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw says he has exchanged apologies with the Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro after a sideline dustup to both being ejected.

The NFL has suspended Colts defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad six games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones said his recent knee surgery was limited to his ACL and he hopes to return to practice for training camp next season.
