Capitals 4, Kings 3: John Carlson scored with 53 seconds left to lift host Washington past Los Angeles. Nicolas Aube-Kubel had a goal and two assists, Nic Dowd and Dylan Strome also scored and Darcy Kuemper stopped 38 shots to help the Capitals end a two-game slide. Kevin Fiala struck twice and Adrian Kempe also scored for the Kings. They have lost five in a row.

Blackhawks 4, Flames 3: Colin Blackwell had two goals and an assist as host Chicago topped Calgary in its first game since Connor Bedard was sidelined by a broken jaw. Nikita Zaitsev added a goal and an assist for last-place Chicago, which had dropped five in a row and seven of eight overall. Philipp Kurashev also scored, and Petr Mrazek made 28 saves.

Jets 6, Coyotes 2: Mark Scheifele scored twice, Connor Hellebuyck stopped 15 shots and visiting Winnipeg took the outright NHL points lead, beating Arizona to extended its points streak to 12. Winnipeg shut down the Coyotes most of the night en route to their sixth victory in a row, holding them to four shots until Nick Schmaltz scored midway through the second period.

Red Wings 3, Ducks 2: Michael Rasmussen scored the go-ahead goal with 1:07 remaining and visiting Detroit extended its winning streak to three games. Joe Veleno and Dylan Larkin also scored and Alex Lyon made 29 saves as the Red Wings completed a successful three-game California road trip to San Jose, Los Angeles and Anaheim. The three victories to start January match what Detroit had in its final 13 games of December. Rasmussen’s game-winner, his ninth goal of the season, came when he redirected the puck off his left skate and into the Ducks’ goal off a pass from Moritz Seider. The play was reviewed with the goal allowed after no kicking motion was detected. Trevor Zegras scored two goals for the Ducks and Lukas Dostal made 25 saves as primary goalie John Gibson was out with an illness. Troy Terry had an assist for Anaheim after missing the previous three games with an upper-body injury. Anaheim went 1-6-1 on a season-long eight-game homestand and now heads out for six consecutiv­e road games.

Saturday’s late results Golden Knights 5, Islanders 2:

Jack Eichel and Nic Roy each scored two goals and host Vegas beat New York. Pavel Dorofeyev also scored for the Golden Knights, who had lost six of their last seven while getting outscored 29-15. Logan Thompson made 28 saves.

Oilers 3, Senators 1: Zach Hyman had his third hat trick of the season and fourth in the NHL to help host Edmonton win its seventh straight game. Stuart Skinner made 29 saves to help the Oilers improve to 20-15-1 and move into eighth place in the Western Conference. They have overcome a 5-12-1 start by going 15-3-0 in their last 18.
