Walter James Farrell, a true San Franciscan, born at Mary’s Help on Guerrero Street, raised on Jersey Street, passed away on June 8, 2018. Walter graduated from St. James Catholic School on Fair Oaks, attended St. Joseph’s Seminary in Mountain View, and then graduated from St. Ignatius on Stanyan ‘47 and Stanford University ‘51. Active duty US Air Force during the Korean War with Strategic Air Command as a navigator/bombardier and retired from the Air National Guard as Lieutenant Colonel. Retired industrial engineer with PG&E, 59 year member of the Olympic Club. Knight Commander with Star, Equestrian Order of Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Many volunteer hours and leadership roles with Serra Club of San Francisco, Hibernian-Newman Club of San Francisco, West of Twin Peaks Central Council, and Forest Hill Associatio­n. Lector and Eucharisti­c Minister at St. Brendan, former president of St. Brendan Men’s Club and St. Brendan Parish Council. Avid front yard gardener and long-time ticket-holder for Stanford football.

Dearly beloved husband of Kathe McDonnell Farrell for 52 years, loving father of James (Jennifer), Margaret (José Rosado) and Anthony (Shoba). Cherished “Papa” to grandchild­ren Jane, Pavan, Joan and Leela.

Viewing at 5:00 p.m. and Vigil at 6:00 p.m. at St. Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway San Francisco CA 94127 on Tuesday, June 12. Celebratio­n of Life to be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brendan Church on Wednesday, June 13. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma CA.
