Russian Hill home features graceful architectural touches
Grace and grandeur abound at 2626 Larkin St., a sophisticated five-bedroom masterpiece of concrete and steel nestled between the Alice Marble Tennis Courts and the future site of Francisco Park in Russian Hill.
“It’s a triumph of design and artisanal perfection where nothing is left to chance,” said Val Steele of Pacific Union Real Estate, who is listing the home alongside agents from GPK Luxury Real Estate for $25 million.
Architect Sandy Walker conceptualized the newly constructed home, while interior designer Helga Horner tended to a sumptuous material palette sourcing fixtures and finishes from around the globe. Balconies along the stately facade represent only a small part of the wealth of outdoor spaces found throughout the residence.
Cloaked in Fossil stone and Petit Belgian granite, the handsome foyer both introduces the elaborate home and lends hints of what’s to come.
In a home full of dramatic designs, the circular central staircase commands particular attention.
The staircase spirals around a three-story Venini chandelier designed by Arch Chilò, who drew inspiration from San Francisco’s ever-changing climate while creating the fixture from pieces of frosted and transparent Italian glasses.
“He said the clear glass is the city on a beautiful day, while the gray glass coming from the bottom of the chandelier and traveling upward represents fog rolling in,” Horner said.
No design element is an afterthought at 2626 Larkin St., as evidenced by the staircase’s handrail.
A statement piece in its own right, the metallic spiral comes from a single, continuous piece of hammered bronze painstakingly crafted by sculptor Brian Martin of Brian Martin Metals.
Steele points to the hardware as well.
“The door handles are castbronze dipped in silver. They are beyond exquisite,” Steele said.
Though artful accents adorn the interior, the spacious dimensions and abundant exposures to natural light ensures a welcoming warmth and approachability shines through.
Framing views of the Presidio, the Palace of Fine Arts, and San Francisco Bay through their cathedral windows, the living and dining rooms embody elegance.
Professional appliances outfit an open kitchen revolving around a marble island with waterfall edges. The adjoining family room includes accordionstyle glass doors that lead to an enclosed garden with dramatic water features, gas fire pit, built-in barbecue, and pizza oven.
The master suite pampers with its raised gas fireplace and dressing room paneled in Macassar ebony. Its private balcony overlooks landmarks and the bay.
Églomisé-clad dual vanities and walls draped with slabs of blue quartz fashion a spa-caliber master bathroom hosting a deep soaking tub and glass shower.
Ascension to the sixth and final level reveals a large entertainment room linked to an expansive terrace with western and northern views.
Those seeking even grander vistas may head to the roof terrace crowning the regal construction.
