Four breweries to hit in Redding

-

FALL RIVER BREWING CO.

The amateur reviewers on Beer Advocate’s website rave about Fall River, which recently expanded and opened a taproom in downtown Redding. Although the bar features nice patio seating, enthusiasts come here for the beer, not the ambiance. Fall River’s whole line of IPAs are popular, but its Hexagenia IPA is particularly beloved. 1030 E. Cypress Ave., Redding; 530-6050230; noon-10 p.m. or later on weekends.

WILDCARD BREWING

This brewery, founded in 2012, has two options for local drinkers: Stop by the brewery Tuesday-Saturday — with tours on Saturday afternoon — or pop into their shiny new tap house downtown any day of the week. The Crowd Please Juicy IPA, made from citrusy hops, comes highly recommended. Tap house: 1321 Butte St., Redding, CA. 96003; 530-255-8582; Open MondayThursday 2 p.m.-9 p.m., Friday 2 p.m.-10 p.m., Saturday, noon-10 p.m., Sunday noon-6 p.m

WOODY’S BREWING CO.

Woody’s brews on site and offers all the classics — IPAs, wheats, porters — but it’s the pub grub that’ll keep you coming back to this Oregon Street tap house. The house-made tater tots can be gussied up like nachos, doused with chili and cheese, or covered in bacon and bleu. The IPAs are popular here, but spice it up and try the Chili Wheat beer, instead. 1257 Oregon St., Redding; 530-768-1034; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on weekdays and until 11 p.m. on weekends and 9 p.m. on Sundays.

FINAL DRAFT BREWING

Make your way to Final Draft for one of the 20 or so beers on tap, yes, but stay for the weekend live music, sprawling patio and indoor cornhole. The beer nerds on the Untappd app are particularly enamored with the brewery’s porters; try the imperial Attitude Adjustment, which comes in at a whopping 10.1 percent ABV. 1600 California St., Redding; 530-338-1198; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. weekdays and until 11 p.m. on weekends.
