THE NBA SHORTS SUIT SHOWDOWN

- — Tony Bravo

It’s been a battle of the calves during the NBA Finals, with Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James arriving in his gray Thom Browne shorts suit at least twice, and Warrior Draymond Green sporting his own shorts suit. Style was there before, during and after Game 2, asking the important questions in an attempt to shed light on who wore the trend best — and who wore it first. Although the outcome of the series wasn’t known as Style went to press Thursday, we have strong thoughts on who can claim sartorial victory.

LEBRON JAMES

The small forward had himself and his teammates outfitted in custom Thom Browne suiting for April’s championship games. James is the only Cav to sport

the shorts.

Head-to-toe Browne

James’ Game 1 look was worn with matching shirt, tie and socks by Browne and completed with a $41,000 crocodile “Mr. Thom” bag and leather

brogue boots.

The reaction

Some praised James’ fashionforward attitude, but after two losses, the suit was AWOL for Game 3.

DRAYMOND GREEN

The power forward wore Caribbean blue tuxedo-stripe shorts and a matching peak lapel jacket by Los Angeles bespoke designer Richfresh to Game 2. “I started that trend a long time ago,” Green told media. “I wore shorts last year.

Go check the pictures.”

The details

Green completed the look with a Dolce & Gabbana Tshirt and Chanel brooch. “I never liked the idea of stuffy clothes, and I’ve never liked the idea of uncomfortable suits,” said Richfresh.

Why shorts?

“It gets a little warm in this room,” said Green, referring to the post-game media room. “So these shorts bode well for me.” His designer added, “I like the idea of suits you could play ball in.”
