Judith “Judy” Ann Alioto passed away peacefully at her San Rafael home surrounded by her loving family and her two Bernese Mountain dogs.

Judy was born in San Francisco, the daughter of Samuel and Ada Barone. She attended St. Brigid’s Grammar School and St. Rose Academy where she graduated in 1969. She remained in close contact with her school friends throughout her life.

Following Judy’s graduation from St. Rose, she attended UC Berkeley for two years prior to transferring to Santa Clara University. There she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 majoring in Italian and minoring in philosophy. Always an honor student and appreciative of learning, Judy placed great value on the education that she received.

Judy loved good films, music, and dancing, and was often the life of the party. She was widely known to throw a great one herself when the occasion arose either at home or at Lake Tahoe. Attendees were often left with a lasting impression of her vibrant dance moves and infectious laugh. Jude, as many called her, carried herself with an enviable style and grace and was always well ahead of fashion and beauty trends. Creative and skilled in the kitchen, Judy was fond of cooking for her family. Her favorite occasions at home were preparing a delicious and healthy meal, playing a competitive card or board game, and watching the Warriors and the 49ers. Judy’s dogs were always a source of love for her. If you encountered one of her Berners, you knew, by their most soulful eyes, that they exuded the love she gave to them. She loved walking them at the various Marin parks and it was there, in fact, that she herself met many of her closest friends.

Above all else, Judy loved people. The pride of her life was her family: her four children and her high school sweetheart and husband Joe. Judy and Joe were married for 33 years before his passing in 2011. For those beyond her family, Judy’s affable nature was a trademark. If she met you once, no matter where or when, she had an uncanny ability to remember your name and welcome you as a friend. Judy considered nothing too large or too small to be done for someone in need.

Judy will be remembered by all those who knew her for her laugh, the mischievous sparkle in her eyes, her care for others, and the beauty of her soul. We will miss her.

Judy is survived by her sons Nunzio (Monique), Marc, and Joey; her daughter Alexa (Nic); her sister, Sister Claire “Bonnie” Barone of Monterey; her brother Joe Barone (Maricela) of Pleasanton; her sisters-in-law Francesca Alioto of Novato and Rose Marie Violante (Cosmo) of San Rafael; her two dogs Ziggy and Millie; and, numerous Alioto and Barone relatives.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Vincent School for Boys on June 26th at 11:00 A.M. A Celebration of Life will follow at The Marin Country Club.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either of Judy’s favorite charitable organizations: the Salesian Boys’ and Girls’ Club (salesianclub.org) or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude. org ID#1131348).
