Don A. Beckman
April 5, 1951 – May 28, 2018
Don Allen Beckman remained single and never had children or a mortgage. He lived and worked most of his life in and around San Francisco. Don was born in Lodi, California, to Millard and Lucille Beckman and grew up there in a stable, middle-class environment.
After graduation from high school in 1969, Don worked at several jobs and attended several colleges, successfully avoiding being drafted, and finally graduated with a B.A. from Chico State University in 1975. After college, Don worked as a paralegal for 10 years. For the rest of his career, Don mostly worked as a contractor or consultant in technical writing and instructional design. After working in London and traveling in Europe at 18, Don made travel a priority. His enjoyment of travel, however, was diminished with the advent of the internet and cell phones. Prior to their invention, he spent a year touring Pacific Rim countries and Pacific islands. He also traveled extensively in North America, Central America and Europe. He enjoyed the music, art and literature of others and dabbled in all three himself. Don was exceedingly thankful for his fantastic friends, which included his sister Joan C. B. Fox. She and her family survive him, as does a brother Bruce and his family. A private celebration will be held on June 23 in San Francisco. His name was Don, and now he’s gone.
