Deep thoughts, cheap shots & bon mots ...

 Will any Bay Area team take a run at Greg Papa? All the teams seem happy with the TV-radio crews they have, but the best play-by-play man in the Bay Area in any sport is hanging out there on a low branch.

 The A’s reportedly are considering a contract extension for Khris Davis. My advice: Lock him up! Lock him up! (Contract-wise.)

 The Warriors likely will feature five players coming off an All-Star season. Only other team that can say that: the 1975-76 Celtics. Edge to Warriors, based on age. Stephen Curry, at 30, will be the oldest Warrior. For those Celtics, John Havlicek was 35, Paul Silas 32.

 However, that Celtics team gets the edge in HOF heft, with Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Charlie Scott, JoJo White and forward Don Nelson (voted to the HOF as a coach). The Warriors will start four likely future HOFers. DeMarcus Cousins is a waitand-see.  A subtle difference between British Open champ Francesco Molinari and 63-hole leader Tiger Woods: Molinari has a psychological coach. Woods didn’t used to need one. He was the reason the other guys had to get ’em. But times change.

 I miss the old days when NFL teams selected trainingcamp locations based on extreme heat. The Cowboys went all the way to Thousand Oaks in SoCal. Raiders to Santa Rosa, 49ers to Rocklin. And that was back when teams had full-contact five-adays. Right, memory?

 One reason Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones is standing firm in support of Papa John’s Pizza, even after the NFL cut ties with the company: Jones owns 50 Papa John’s outlets in the Dallas area. Marinara sauce is thicker than blood.

 Kudos to BoMel for no pine time for Khrush. Translation: Praise for A’s skipper Bob Melvin for not benching DH Khris Davis for the A’s weekend series in an NL ballpark, Coors Field. But because of the extreme ball-carry factor at Coors, Davis has been required to bat one-handed.
