Carol Anne McDevitt
January 7, 1927 - July 22, 2018
The best dressed woman in the Bay Area took her final pass down the runway on July 22nd. Known for her radiant beauty, extraordinary sense of style, delightfully wry humor, and kindness to each and every person, Carol Anne McDevitt will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Carol was proud to be a fourth generation Californian, born and raised in San Francisco, and a graduate of the Sarah Dix Hamlin School in 1945. She married William H. McDevitt (deceased) in 1948 and spent most of her life in Marin County where she was active in many charities. She enjoyed golf at the Meadow Club and tennis at the Marin Tennis Club. She is survived by her sons Michael, William, and Peter McDevitt, daughter Kass Green; daughter in law Christine McDevitt; son in law Gene Forsburg, grandchildren Megan, Kate, and Sean McDevitt, granddaughter in law Sarah McDevitt, and great grandchildren Jack and Harper McDevitt, and Simone Nappi, as well as numerous adoring nieces and nephews and good friends.
Carol’s appreciation of chic jewelry and clothing was surpassed only by her love of travel and exceptional food. Always an adventurer, she traveled the world – sleeping in a yurt in Mongolia, spending summers in Provence, traversing the Soviet Union on the Trans-Siberian railway, riding elephants in India, and visiting numerous other locations in Europe, China, Africa, Indonesia, Australia, and South America. She was an outstanding chef and hostess who also relished dining in fine restaurants and sampling new foods.
Carol was especially cherished for her grace, dignity, strength and kindness. She was a constant friend and inspiration to many – the embodiment of a truly elegant lady. Donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind. Please contact members of the family for information on her memorial which will be held in the fall.
