Constance Helene Wyne Mitchell passed away peacefully in Walnut Creek on July 6, 2018 at the age of 89. Connie is preceded in death by her sister Virginia Hawkes. She is survived by her only child James “Bix” Mitchell, granddaugh­ters Siobhan and Kelly Mitchell, niece Tracee Perez and her children Nick Anderson and Racheal Perez, niece Kary Basel and nephew Jerry Mitchell.

Connie was born on December 11, 1928 in San Francisco California to Dr Paul and Irma Wyne. She graduated from Washington High School and went on to The University of California Berkeley (Go BEARS). There she joined Alpha Gamma Delta, whose motto is “Live with Purpose”, and she did. She graduated in 1951 with a degree in Public Administra­tion with an emphasis in Accounting which she used in various positions throughout her career. During her She married James Barret Mitchell in 1957 and then later separated from him over 40 years ago but they remained close friends with him until his passing earlier this year. The couple welcomed their only child “Bix” into their home and she set about teaching him and later her granddaugh­ters to:

1-Always volunteer your time or money to those less fortunate

2-To always pursue your goals to the highest degree. Connie has been described as a liberal before the term liberal even existed as she never judged a person based on their race, color or any personal preference they may have. She was accomplish­ed at crossword puzzles, shanghai rummy, dominos and any game that involves numbers. She loved musicals, the sun especially in Lake Tahoe where she spent many days as a child and an adult and a nice glass of merlot. She was dedicated to many causes including but not limited to emergency preparedne­ss, animal rights, teenage parents, to helping individual­s affected by an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.

A celebratio­n of Life is scheduled for August 5, 2018 at 5 PM in the Rossmoor Gateway Center-Fireside Room. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Connie’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to ARF “The Animal Rescue Foundation at https://www. arflife.org.
