PETER HARTLAUB’S POP CULTURE AND COMEDY PICK
Dave Meniketti co-founded Y&T in Hayward in the 1970s, with the band calling itself Yesterday and Today, and building a following among hard rock and heavy metal fans for its hard-charging live shows.
More than 40 years later, Meniketti is one of the most respected guitarists in rock and maintains that dedication for showmanship. In addition to world tours, Y&T in recent years has made annual stops at the Fillmore in San Francisco, the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk .
Well, it’s that time of the year again, when the band heads back to Santa Cruz. As part of the boardwalk’s free summer concerts, Y&T is scheduled to play at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3.
Pro tip: Watch most of the show at the beach stage, then try timing a ride on the historic Giant Dipper roller coaster while Y&T plays “Rescue Me.”
