Kevin M. Mullaney

-

Kevin Michael Mullaney was born January 21, 1936 in San Francisco, the son of Kathleen (Carroll) and Thomas P. Mullaney, and brother of Thomas A. Mullaney, who preceded him in death. He passed away on September 10, 2018 from advanced interstitial lung disease and Parkinsonism. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Vivian (Arend) Mullaney, nephew Martin and his wife Cecile and their children Kyle and Jasmine; nephew Patrick and his children Alexander, Kathleen, Michael and Serabeth; niece Mary Molly and her daughter Marilyn; and niece Susan. He was a lifelong resident of San Francisco’s Parkside District and parishioner of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Kevin graduated from Riordan High School in 1954 and attended San Francisco State University for his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. He spent his career at the California Public Utilities Commission, starting as a clerk and switching to Traffic Analyst after receiving his Master’s degree. Kevin loved a good party and was a social butterfly throughout his life. In the 1960s and 70s he was active with the Old St. Mary’s and Green-Steiners young adult groups. For 25 years, Kevin travelled to cities across the U.S. for the annual Catholic Alumni Club convention. He was a devoted member of the Irish Cultural Center and the Irish Literary and Historical Society. He believed there was no more poetry left to write since all the best poems have already been written, by the Irish. He regularly went to the Irish, Silent, and Noir film festivals. It brought him joy to sing Irish ballads at open mic night. He was a classic “left-wing liberal from San Francisco” who got fired up talking about social justice issues. He was loved for his goodness and generosity. Visitation is on Monday, Sept. 17, beginning at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 - 17th Ave., San Francisco.
