Cecilia “Chita” Brundelre Abbott
Cecilia “Chita” Vivian Brun del Re was born April 3, 1945 to Italian immigrants in Little Italy of Baltimore, Maryland. Following college at University of Maryland, Chita became a nurse and moved to Washington, DC where she met her husband, Richard Abbott, a medical student. They married on the rim of the Grand Canyon, en route to start a family on the West Coast. They first moved to Gallup, New Mexico to work as medical professionals on the Navajo Indian Reservation. This experience ignited her lifelong passion for organic foods, a chemical-free environment, and holistic living.
Chita and Rich’s first child, Galen, was born in 1973 and their twin daughters, Alison and Lauren, were born in 1975 after they moved to San Francisco, where Rich began his residency in Ophthalmology and Chita worked as a nurse. Aside from raising her family, Chita spent her time working on several successful businesses and also spent many hours volunteering to help the community. In 2000, Chita was recognized by Marin County School Administrators Association as their Citizen of the Year for her volunteer work in education.
Chita’s grace and beauty were never more evident than when she was cooking and entertaining - making everyone feel welcomed and loved. On September 14th, Chita passed away peacefully at home with her husband and children by her side after a courageous and hard fought battle with Mesothelioma. Chita is survived by Rich, her husband of 47 years; her three children, Galen, Alison and Lauren: and her five grandchildren, Daniela, Gianni, Elle, Ethan and Andrew.
