If you missed it ...
In a week when inspectors found cracks in the Transbay Transit Center and the SEC found cracks in Elon Musk, this also happened:
While San Mateo’s SurveyMonkey made a splash during its first week of trading, rising about 33 percent, two other local initial public offerings didn’t fare so well during the week. South San Francisco’s Sutro Biopharma set its IPO price for Thursday at $15 — and wrapped up Friday’s trading at exactly that price. Gritstone Oncology of Emeryville went public Friday at a price of $15 but closed at $14.24 — down about 5 percent.
Houston officials and community groups aren’t exactly thrilled with a Canadian company’s plans to incorporate new technology into the world’s oldest profession. Kinkysdolls said on its Facebook page that it plans on opening a “love dolls brothel,” featuring human-like dolls that can speak and feel warm to the touch — and are available for sale or rent.
Amazon opened a 4,000-square-foot store in New York’s SoHo neighborhood that sells a wide range of products, including shower curtains, Hallmark cards and baby bottles. The store, called Amazon 4-star, will only offer Amazon.com’s best-sellers, new and trending items, and those that get rated with four or more stars on its website.
Walt Disney World said its prices will vary based on the date picked with a new online planning tool that debuts Oct. 16. Single-day tickets will range from $109 to $129, depending on how popular the day is expected to be, and visitors will be able to find the lowest-priced days by clicking on a calendar at www. disneyworld.com.
