_1 Police shooting: Tennessee authorities said Saturday that one person died and an officer was injured in a shooting at an apartment complex in Nashville. The state Bureau of Investigation said Nashville police responded to a call of shots fired late Friday and observed a person who matched the description of a suspect running into an apartment. Officers approached the apartment door and for reasons still under investigation, bureau officials said, the situation escalated and resulted in gunfire between two officers and Sershawn Martez Dillon. Dillon, 31, died later at a hospital. Officer Samuel Galluzzi was struck in the thigh and ankle. _2 Pot charges: A Sacramento man has been indicted on charges of international money laundering and manufacturing marijuana. U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott says Daniel Zhu’s charges relate to a scheme by a crime group based in China to grow marijuana in California illegally. Earlier this year, authorities seized about 100 Northern California homes involved in the crime ring. Officials say the marijuana was being shipped to other U.S. states. Marijuana is legal in California but growing it requires a permit and it cannot be shipped over state lines. The indictment was unsealed Friday. It says Zhu was involved in receiving international money wires from China to purchase California real estate used to grow marijuana. _3 Slain teen: A teenager killed in a shooting in New Mexico had recently appeared in a political ad for a gubernatorial candidate that highlights tenuous opportunities for youths in the state. Democratic candidate for governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said Cameron Martinez, 18, was a “remarkable young man” and noted that he had just started a job at Los Alamos National Lab. Martinez was one of four people found Thursday night with gunshot wounds in a vehicle near the Ohkay Hotel Casino near Espanola, authorities said. The other three people are expected to survive their injuries. Police have not said what might have prompted the shooting, and no arrests have been made. _4 Kardashian suit: Reality TV star Kim Kardashian West is suing a former security guard over an incident in Paris in which she was bound and robbed of jewelry that was worth millions of dollars. West and an insurance company filed the suit in Wilmington, Del., alleging negligence and demanding $6.1 million. Court documents name Pascal Duvier and his company Protect Security Inc. as the defendants. The lawsuit states that armed men stormed West’s Paris hotel room in 2016. Insurer AIG Property Casualty Co. paid out $6.1 million to cover the losses.

_5 Squirrel count: It’s one of the enduring mysteries of life in New York City: Just how many squirrels live in Central Park? There could soon be an answer. Counters started roaming the 840-acre park Saturday for its first Squirrel Census. Organizers of the two-week count say they’re looking to learn more about squirrel behavior and urban green space.
