James J. Sullivan

James J. Sullivan, in San Francisco, October 3, 2018. Cherished husband of Jerry Lynn Sullivan, faithful father of Matthew (Margaret) Sullivan, Gia (Tim) Ramza, and Neil Sullivan. Dear grandfather of Grace and Rex Ramza and Wyatt Sullivan. Loving brother of Kathleen (James) Foley, Arthur J. (Marion) Sullivan III, Rosemary (Frank) Dervin and the late John J. Sullivan, beloved son of the late Catherine and Arthur J. Sullivan Jr.. Cousin of Marie Foge, brother in law of Patricia (Carl) Harris. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends and colleagues who will miss his caring ways and enduring professionalism. A proud third generation San Francisco native, he was a graduate of St. Anne School, St. Joseph’s Seminary and The University of San Francisco Class of 1964. Jim was the devoted partner/owner of Arthur J. Sullivan & Company Funeral Home founded by his grandfather in 1923. Jim served his country with distinction for 25 years and retired as a Colonel and Chief of Staff of the USAR 91st Division. He was a graduate of the US Army War College. Jim was Knight Commander with Star in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, Past President of the Greater Mission Rotary Club, a member of the Hibernian Newman Club, CFDA & NFDA. Long time member and lector at St. Brendan’s Church, a dedicated Giants fan and 30 year season ticket holder with the San Francisco 49’ers.

Friends may visit on Sunday, October 7th, 2018 after 5:00pm where a vigil service will be held at 6:00pm at St. Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway Ave., San Francisco. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Monday, October 8th, at 10:30am also at St. Brendan Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in Jim’s memory preferred to Sisters of the Presentation, 2340 Turk St., San Francisco, CA 94118, Little Sisters of the Poor, 300 Lake Street, San Francisco, 94118.
