Juanita Emily (Lopez) Avila, born on November 24, 1928 in Rockyford, Colorado, to the late Rupe Chavez and the late Andrés Lopez, passed away peacefully amongst family members and friends in her home at age 89 on September 24, 2018 in San Francisco, California. She was in the electronic­s industry at Hervey’s TV and Stereo in San Francisco’s Mission District as a salesperso­n/bookkeeper until retiring in 1995, after 20 years of service. Juanita was the loving wife of the late Samuel Avila. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Avila; brothers - Rudy Lopez, Frank Chavez, and Michael Chavez; and sisters - Dorothy Lopez Pino, Balbina Chavez Morales, and Mary Chavez McDade. Juanita is survived by her sons - Samuel Avila Jr and David Avila; daughters - Ruby Avila Robles and Sharon Avila; brothers - Frank Lopez and Danny Chavez; sisters - Diane Lopez Palella, Judy Lopez, and Stella Lopez; grandchild­ren - Richard Robles Jr, Victoria Avila, Robert Robles, and Ryan Robles; nieces - Theresa Palella and Lisa Pallela; and numerous other nieces and nephews, including over 20 godchildre­n! Juanita was an avid fan of the San Francsico 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and most especially, her beloved San Francisco Giants. She loved playing cards, raising her family, watching telenovela­s, long talks with family members and friends over the phone, painting, drawing, praying the rosary, cooking, baking, traveling, and spending as much time as possible with her family. She was most proud of the family she raised and the prosperity she helped build, while establishi­ng firm family roots in San Franicsco. Cypress Lawn Funeral Home And Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery are handling arrangemen­ts. Both are located in Colma, California.
