Herb passed away peacefully in his beloved cabin on the Russian River attended by family. Born and raised in San Francisco, the son of Swedish immigrants, Sven Herbert Anderson Sr. and Elin Grunlund Anderson. Graduate of Lowell high school,1950, where he played the tuba in the high school band and lettered in most sports, and San Francisco State College 1954, where he in excelled in track and field and soccer, graduating with a BOA degree.

He worked as recreational director (Eureka Valley) teacher (Pelton Jr. High School/George Washington High School), coached and refereed for the San Francisco united school district for more than 30 years. He was an avid and recognized All City, American, and International collegiate soccer player and inducted into the SF State Gators hall of fame. His children vividly recall weekends spent at Kezar stadium and Beach Chalet watching him run the field with a smile on his face and a whistle in his mouth. Sports and good sportsmanship were one and the same for him. Throughout years ,he would invariably meet former students and athletes, and say “he/she played ball for for me”. Upon retirement, he permanently moved to S.H.P in Forestville Ca., where he enjoyed the sun, redwoods, his family, especially his grandchildren, during the summer months, the parties, the card games and the peace and quite among his friends.

He was able to travel to almost everywhere he wanted to go. His favorites being Germany, where he taught soccer in Mannheim, and Mexico, where he made the most of “inclusive resorts” with friends and past colleagues.

Herb leaves behind his children Sven Eric Anderson, Lars Herbert Anderson, Christina Ingrid Warne, his grandchildren Annika Lynn Anderson, Eric Austin Anderson, Alicia Christine Horne, and Ava Lorraine Anderson, his great grand children Riley Winter Heron and Scarlet Lilly Horne.

This father, grandfather, great grandfather, teacher, mentor and coach will be missed by all.

Celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2019.
