Bruce W. Hyman, Esq. passed away peacefully on December 17, 2018 at the age of 84. Bruce was born January 6, 1934 in San Francisco and never left; practicing real estate law with a specialty in real estate finance for over sixty years. He attended Lowell High School and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in accounting; followed by law school at UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall. He began his profession­al career as an attorney and CPA at Landels, Ripley & Diamond, where he subsequent­ly became the firm’s managing partner. Bruce continued to practice real estate law at the firms of Graham & James, Paul Hastings and Allen Matkins. Bruce has been of counsel at Allen Matkins since 2004. Bruce took great pleasure in mentoring and spending time with the law firm’s associates and paralegals. Bruce was general counsel for the California Mortgage Bankers Associatio­n for twenty-five years and its general counsel emeritus. He was also a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, the American College of Mortgage Attorneys and the Mortgage Bankers Associatio­n. Bruce was a frequent and nationally recognized speaker at legal conference­s.

Bruce’s passion was the San Francisco Opera, which began as a 14 year old usher in 1948. He was on the Board of Directors for 27 years, serving on executive committees and being a driving force on numerous special projects. He was also instrument­al in establishi­ng the Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve in Big Sur, which is now managed by UC Santa Cruz.

Bruce was an avid golfer and a member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco and Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel. Before golf, he was a devoted tennis player and a member of the UC Berkeley tennis team. He never lost interest in the game of tennis.

Bruce married Marcia “Toni” Landels (d. 2001) in 1963. Bruce and Toni proudly raised a son, James “Jim” Hyman, and a daughter, Katherine Hyman (d. 2012). He is survived by his son Jim, daughter-in-law Laurie Hyman, three grandchild­ren Sophie, Ella and Charlie Hyman, and significan­t other, Simone Marie Quarre’

No service is scheduled. There will be a private gathering of family and friends in January. Ray passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 21. He was born in San Francisco where he had a State Farm Insurance agency for 46 years. He retired in 1995
