George Bartley Coulter, aged 79, passed away in his home December 12, 2018. Known to all as Bart, he was a man to whom friends and family were of utmost importance. His work and interests all reflected this.

Born in San Francisco and raised in San Mateo, Bart spent the last forty years residing in Redwood City. He attended Hillsdale High and entered the Navy in 1956. After his discharge in 1961, he joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local 162 in San Mateo. He began his own company in 1980 Coulter Construction Inc., which continues today run by his son, Jason.

In 1966, Bart married his life partner, Laurie. They had three children: Jennifer, Karrie and Jason (Julia), of whom he was so proud. He delighted in his grandchildren, Jacob and Emma and his great grandson, Connor.

Bart had many interests including a long time membership in the Redwood City Elks Lodge, BPOE 1991. It was there, he and the ‘Butcher Blocks’ would prepare meals for monthly birthday night, veterans and the Elks’ annual crab feed fundraiser. Bart loved to cook, hunt, fish, garden and travel with friends and family. He had a strong commitment to preserving California’s wetlands for waterfowl, supporting education for women and supporting the CHP 11-99 Foundation.

Bart lived a full life but even so, he left us too soon. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and doing for those he loved. Memorial gifts may be given to the following: California Waterfowl Association, Bart Coulter Scholarship Fund c/o Redwood City Elks Lodge #1991 or the CHP 11-99 Foundation.
