On December 20, 2018 Alyce Wetzel Murphy, passed away after 100 glorious years.. Alyce was predeceased by her loving husband John and her parents Alice and Alfred Wetzel, sister Evelyn and brother Raymond; cherished mother of Pat Ormsby (Elon), (Brian-deceased) (Bev); Jim Murphy (Pat), and Joni Morris (Jack-deceased); adored grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a very special aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Alyce was born May 9, 1918, a third generation, native San Franciscan who spent her full 100 years living in the Noe Valley. A valued member of St. Paul’s Parish, a graduate of St. Paul’s grammar and high school, class of 1936. She was a past president and active member of the Altar Society, and past president of her high school alumnae. A founding member of the United Irish Cultural Center. A retired Superior Court Clerk.

She loved to spin the slots, bet the ponies, and hold court at the crap tables. A good martini was a daily occasion. She loved a good party, she was the perfect hostess. To her, family was everything, a value she held high. She could always be counted on as a loyal friend and someone to hang with in good times and bad. She was the best of the best.

Alyce’s family would like to thank her primary and extraordinary caregiver Tia. A special thanks also to Evelyn. We greatly appreciate Sutter Hospice for their kindness and support.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Alyce’s life Friday December 28th at St. Paul’s Church, 221 Valley Street, San Francisco - viewing at 9:30 AM with Mass following at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request gifts in her memory to be made to St. Paul’s Preservation Fund or St. Paul’s High School Alumnae Association, 221 Valley Street, San Francisco, CA 94131.
