Marie Genevieve “Genny” Mitchell passed away on December 14th at the age of 85. She was surrounded by family at her home at Merrill Gardens Retirement Community in Lafayette, California.

Genny was born in 1933 in Kobe, Japan and moved to the United States in 1949 to attend school at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. She had previously met her husband and high school sweetheart, Ian Mitchell, in Japan and they married in 1955. Ian and Genny were married for 43 years.

Genny spent most of her 85 years living in San Francisco and in Marin County. She particular­ly loved Marin and her home in San Rafael. There, she and Ian raised their family. Genny was actively involved in her church community at Saint Rafael’s. Genny also had a large extended family and enjoyed her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Genny is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Kathleen Mitchell (Raymond Wischhover), Jennifer Mitchell (Scott Stanko) and Alison Jones (Scott Jones), her brother Eduardo da Silva of Murrietta, California, and her seven grandchild­ren: Benjamin, Ian, Kathryn, Samantha, Ryan, William, and Julia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ian (1998), her daughter, Diane (1972) and three of her brothers, Edmund, Timothy and Andre.

A memorial mass will be held at 1PM on Friday, December 28th, at Mission San Rafael Arcangel, 1104 5th Avenue in San Rafael, followed by a celebratio­n of life.
