Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez, aged 68, passed away in the company of family and friends after a brave struggle with terminal illness. He is survived by his two sisters Alicia and Patricia and her husband Brian. Emmanuel is also survived by many beloved cousins and their families as well as many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Erlinda and sister Susan, whom he now joins to await the resurrecti­on.

Born on January 1, 1950 to Domingo and Erlinda (nee Santos) Fernandez, Emmanuel was dedicated to life-long learning both as a student and an educator, inspiring others through his love of teaching. He attended Ateneo de Manila University starting grade school in 1956 through college graduation in 1972. He matriculat­ed to the University of the Philippine­s where he earned an MBA. He continued his commitment to the Ateneo community as a teacher at the university as well as Assumption College in San Lorenzo, rising to the Dean of the Department of Economics at Ateneo and Personnel Director at Assumption College. Emmanuel also taught internatio­nally in France, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Malaysia at institutio­ns such as the Fontainebl­eau, Cambridge, and Antwerp and worked in various managerial positions in the private sector. He completed his doctoral degree at the University of San Francisco, earning an Ed. D. in 1998 and settled in the Bay Area for the remainder of his life.
