Anthony Griffin

Tony Griffin, a San Francisco attorney and accomplished amateur actor and raconteur, died peacefully December 15 in Inverness, California after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family. Born in San Francisco in 1936, he was the son of Everett Griffin and Jean Gregory Griffin, and a fourth generation San Franciscan. Tony attended Town school and the Thatcher School, then graduated from the University of California Berkeley and its law school, Boalt Hall. Following his admission to the California Bar in 1962, Tony specialized in litigation as a partner at St. Clair Zappettini McFetridge and Griffin.
Tony’s passion was performing, along with writing stories and poems that were often associated with his acting. He acted at every school he attended, then became a major figure in the stage performances of the Bohemian Club in San Francisco, which he joined in 1966. A leader who held the respect and love of his many friends and family, he served as President of the Bohemian Club in 20052007, led its Shoestring Camp, and was Commodore of the Inverness Yacht Club. Tony’s talent, memory for hilarious stories and lively, wry humor enriched every meeting or conversation he joined.
Tony and his wife Jennifer were married for 60 years, living a wonderful and full life with their many friends, who will always remember him and his humor with great affection. In addition to Jennifer, Tony is survived by their four children -- Everett, Sydney, Hillary and Ashley -- and six grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Andrew Griffin, Sarah Banker, Cyrus Griffin and their children. His brother David Griffin predeceased him. Tony’s life will be celebrated at the Inverness Yacht Club on February 24th at 2:00pm.
