“Veiled Meanings: Fashioning Jewish Dress, From the Collection of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.” The Contemporary Jewish Museum explores the diverse regional and cultural stories of Jewish dress with an emphasis on decoding its many sartorial symbols and signifiers. “Contemporary Muslim
Fashions” This exhibition by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco at the de Young Museum has been internationally profiled as the first to highlight contemporary Muslim styles ranging from haute couture to birkinis. Closes Jan. 6. https://deyoung.famsf.org
“The World of Charles and Ray Eames” The Oakland Museum of California brings you another immersive exhibition focusing on home designers (and proto lifestyle influencers) Charles and Ray Eames. Closes Feb. 17. http://museumca.org
“East Meets West: Jewels of the Maharajas From the Al Thani Collection.” If you like big, blinging gems, this dazzling display at the Legion of Honor is not to be missed. Closes Feb. 24. https://legionofhonor. famsf.org
Farther afield: “Rodarte.” The first fashion exhibtion at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. puts Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy in the spotlight and was curated by San Francisco’s Jill D’Alessandro with major patronage by Palo Alto philanthropist Christine Suppes.
