Mediterranean in great location

Five-bedroom in the heart of the Marina district

- By Jordan Guinn

Postcard views, Mediterranean flavor and a wealth of outdoor spaces await at 655 Marina Blvd., a five-bedroom found on one of the premier blocks of a coveted neighborhood.

“The front of the home is very San Francisco, with views of the full span of the Golden Gate Bridge from the main levels,” said Marilyn Hayes of Alain Pinel Realtors, who is listing the home for $4.995 million. “But out back it feels like you could be out in the country. It’s unique.”

Technically two parcels, the listing sits on an L-shaped lot. The large backyard hosts a koi pond and garden shed, as well as a sitting area that’s shaded by mature trees and warmed by a gas fire pit. The four-story Mediterranean offers outdoor spaces on three levels, including a pair of southern terraces and front balconies overlooking the iconic bridge and St. Francis Yacht Club.

“The house is situated so you get the full span of bridge,” Hayes said. “If you’re in the 700 or 800 block you don’t get the whole bridge, and if you’re east, you look more at Marina Green and Alcatraz.”

The home’s four bathrooms are a blend of period and contemporary, and the residence includes a two-car tandem garage and seismic upgrades to the foundation.

All the public rooms are on the second level, which includes balconies off its northern and southern sides. Ornate crown molding and parquet flooring finishes the formal dining room, while the kitchen enjoys a Wolf range and a center island with prep sink and built-in oven. In addition to a work area, the kitchen is home to a breakfast nook that opens to a southern balcony through French doors.

Three arched windows in the living room frame Golden Gate and bay views, and one of them leads out to a balcony. A corner fireplace warms the living room. Like the formal dining room, the living room is adorned with parquet flooring and decorative crown molding.

Southern terraces and northern balconies await on the third and fourth levels as well. Each of these floors contains

a pair of bedrooms. Both bedrooms on the top floor include walk-in closets, while the third level houses a bedroom with an adjoining office that leads to a terrace.
