Robert “Bob” Frugoli

Bob was born in San Francisco to Mary & Americo Frugoli. He loved his Italian heritage and grew up in North Beach where he made many lifelong friends. Bob was proud that Italian was his first language.

He was a lifetime member of the Salesian Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Saints Peter and Paul Church and credited his mentor, Angelo Fusco, with his success in life. At Salesian’s, he took up basketball and found that he had a natural talent for the sport. He made the All-City Basketball team in 1947 and went on to earn a basketball scholarship to St. Mary’s College in Moraga. In 2005 he was honored as the Salesian Man of the Year. Bob was married to Rita for 65 wonderful and happy years, until her passing in November 2017. Rita was Bob’s soulmate and the love of his life. They met as teenagers at Hoberg’s Resort and raised 3 daughters. Bob enlisted in the Army in 1952 and went to Officers Training School in Ft. Benning, GA. He served in Korea and received many awards, including the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. After the war, he was proudly discharged as a First Lieutenant.

His career began as a stockbroker with E. F. Hutton in San Francisco. Many of his best clients were found as a result of his daily radio stock market update in Italian. A promotion moved him to Chicago to manage the only office in the Midwest Region. When he retired as a Regional Manager, the region boasted over 100 offices.

Rita and Bob developed a love of travel, which continued throughout their lives. He and Rita traveled the globe with many of their closest friends. His favorite place to go was Tuscany, Italy, where he visited with his family.

Bob was a founding member of the San Francisco Rod & Racquet Club. He attended 50 consecutive fishing trips and came back with more amusing stories than fish. He also served as President of the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club.

After his retirement from the brokerage industry, he founded Armida Winery in Healdsburg, named after his beloved grandmother. This was a dream come true for Bob.

For the past 10 years, Bob and Rita lived at Oakmont of Varenna in Santa Rosa where they made many new friends.

Bob always put family first. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Lisa Frugoli (Ron), Karen Mraovich and Linda Evangelides and 6 grandchildren, Alicia, Alex & Ellen Evangelides, Emily Abrahams (Lee), and Julie and Mary Beth Mraovich.
