Dorothy Josephine Oliphant

Dorothy J. Oliphant passed peacefully on December 19th 2018 at the age of 97. She joins her parents Georgiana and Mariano Zorzilio, sister Gloria, brother Louis and husband Kenward S. Oliphant in the hereafter. She is survived by her son Paul, daughter Beth Cox, three Grandchild­ren and 5 great grandchild­ren.

She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on July 3rd 1921. Her parents moved to California in the late 1920’s and settled in Colton, California. Upon graduation from Colton High School, she attended San Bernardino Valley College where she obtained her nursing degree in 1942. After graduation, Dorothy participat­ed in nurses training at Los Angeles County Hospital. She joined the Army in March of 1944 and after basic training served as an Army Nurse at Fort Bliss, Texas until her discharge as a 1st Lieutenant in February of 1946. Seeking cooler weather, and after some research, headed straight for San Francisco where she lived on Tenth Avenue near Geary. She attended San Francisco College for Women (USF Lone Mountain) where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1948. She married Kenward S. Oliphant, whom she met in the Military in October of 1948.

After the Birth of her two children and shepherdin­g them through elementary school, she became involved with the San Francisco Roth Auxiliary where she dedicated the next 50+ years of her life raising money for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She dedicated every waking moment to assure that all children within the hospital had access to the best care possible.

Graveside Services will be held at the San Francisco National Cemetery (Presidio) on January 18th, 2018, 11:00AM where she will be interned with her husband Kenward.
