Gail Keating Mahoney
October 21, 1929 – January 21, 2019
Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 21, 2019. Gail was a proud 4th generation San Franciscan. Born to Martin Keating and Lolita Francis, she grew up in the Richmond district, attending Convent of the Sacred Heart, Lowell High School (Class of 1947), City College and San Francisco State. In 1952, she met Bob Mahoney and they were married in 1953. Like many of their generation, they bought their first home in Westlake where they raised their daughters, Kathy and Sharon. Mom enjoyed her working years in retail and property management. In 1978, they moved to Foster City where Mom resided until her passing. Mom and Dad enjoyed 42 years of marriage until Dad’s passing in 1995. After that, Mom enjoyed many trips including Alaska, London, Hawaii, New York and the Panama Canal. She enjoyed her involvement in various clubs and organizations including Foster City 55 Plus, Red Hats and Castaways where she made many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Bob and sister Lee Stringer Howard. She is survived by her loving family, daughters Kathy Mahoney Mills (Ray) and Sharon Durey (Dave), grandchildren Kaitlyn Garcia, Allison Strocsher (Ken) and Kelly Mills, nephew and niece Clay and Margaret Stringer, and many other family and friends.
Gail will be remembered for her loving and independent spirit, class, style and honesty. So many people loved you Mom and you made a lasting impact on everyone you met with your caring and selfless ways. We will carry on your legacy and forever make you proud.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday February 16, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Sneider, Sullivan and O’Connell’s Funeral Home, 977 S. El Camino Real San Mateo.
